Manmohan Singh elected for the vacancy position in the upper house

Sonia Gandhi, Congress president chose Manmohan Singh, aged 86, who was chosen from Assam for five times before his session completed in June.

“With the current state of the economy, the party needed him to take on the BJP keeping in mind investments showing a downward trend, fall in production capacity and gloom in the job sector. Moreover, he is one speaker whose comments on the economy trouble the BJP,” stated a party leader.

The party has been asking his opinions on fundamental issues. He also gathered a core collection of leaders on J&K before the CWC reached and passed a resolution on August 6.

On Tuesday, The former Prime Minister registered proposal papers for the by-poll to Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan as Congress candidate.

He is estimated to be announced elected uncontested on the last day of candidature resignation on August 19 as the opposition BJP has determined not to specify a candidate for the bypoll.

Singh enrolled four sets of nomination papers in the chamber of returning officer in the Rajasthan Assembly and uttered appreciation to the Congress party for choosing him.

The ruling party, which has a preponderance in the assembly, is positive in sending him to the upper house.

Mr Singh, arrived in Jaipur and spent some time at a hotel before proceeding to the assembly for filing nomination papers.

Along with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, AICC general secretary in-charge for Rajasthan AvinashPande, Parliamentary Affairs minister Shanti Dhariwal, chief whip Mahesh Joshi, Health minister Raghu Sharma and others, Mr Singh filed the nomination in the office of the returning officer and assembly secretary Pramil Kumar Mathur.
