Opposition states need to work together to meet the targets

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) is dependant heavily on key non-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled states to meet its targets for this year.

The scheme was expanded and the Union government has set the target of building 15.5 million houses under the scheme over the next three year.

The Centre will be counting on Congress-ruled Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh as well as West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha to achieve targets set under the scheme.

The officials have said that the six big states have been allotted 2.93 million out of 5.054 million houses which the government wants to build in the current financial year.

The officials have also added that Tamil Nadu and Odisha have been allotted quotas of 2 lakh and 5.65 lakh houses respectively. Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh have targets of building 3.6 lakh and 1.5 lakh houses.
