Virat Kohli shares a message for Dale Steyn

Virat Kohli captain of Team India on Monday wished a “happy retirement” to Dale Steyn, South African speedster who declared his retirement from Test cricket. Kohli in his Twitter greeted Steyn as a “true champion of the game”.

The struggle between Kohli and Steyn has been strained over the past several years with both players flaunting off their excellent skills providing the fans a feast to watch the duo.

Steyn was also incorporated with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), playing for the franchise first from 2008 to 2010, and then in 2019.

On Monday Prime, the South African pacer declared his retirement from Test cricket with instant effect and said he will concentrate on limited-overs cricket.

Steyn moves away from the format with 439 wickets from 93 Test matches at an average of 22.95. The 36-year-old is the foremost wicket-taker for South Africa in the Test format, as he went past Shaun Pollock in December last year.

Complimentary messages streamed in from all quarters, including the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
BCCI tweeted that after 93 Tests and 439 Test wickets, the Proteas speedster today bids adieu to Test cricket. They enjoyed the contest in whites with you.

Through Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) Twitter handle, Steyn said that it’s terrible to consider never playing another test again but what’s more terrifying is the thought of never playing again at all. So he will be focusing on ODIs and T20s for the rest of his career to maximize his full potential and ensure his longevity in this sport.

Steyn had missed the lately arranged ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in England because of his shoulder injury. He was listed in the team’s squad for the match but decreed out later on.

He represented RCB in this year’s IPL season but subsequently playing only two matches, he was moved out from the match after sustaining an injury.
